You can see straight down into the turquoise waters as you arrive at Gili Air, it’s that clear. You’ll end up feeling the warm water around your ankles when you get off of the boat. Because of the forever summer weather that our tropical location allows, there is never a bad time to go swimming, diving, or snorkelling!
What you can expect…
The snorkelling trips are a half-day excursion. We have a partnership with a private snorkelling company that will meet you at the villas and guide you to the boat. You will get to enjoy cruising around the crystal waters with fresh fruits and a cold drink (both are included in the experience). You’ll be taken around the three Gilis, stopping at various spots to see turtles, the famous Meno Statues, and other spots to view beautiful marine life. You could even stop at Gili Meno for lunch if you wish!
Marine Life on The Gili Islands
Get your go-pro ready! The next photo you will see of vibrant marine life will be the ones that you capture. The Gili Islands are in a special location for this experience. We are located in the centre of the Coral Triangle.
Sea turtles: There’s a reason that the Gilis are known as one of the turtle capitals of the world. While snorkelling, you’ll get to be face-to-face with Green Sea Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles!
Reef Fish: All of those colourful fish that you see on screen savers, you will get to see them in their native habitat! Clown Fish, Damsel Fish, Butterfly Fish, Parrot Fish, Lionfish, and Porcupine Fish. Just to name a few =)
Other Reef Animals: You also have the possibility of seeing creatures like Moray Eels, Banded Sea Snake, and even Sting Rays!
Snorkelling etiquette
It’s very important to respect the marine life and the environment that we are guests in. While we know not to touch creatures like anemones or lionfish because they will hurt us, it’s a good rule to leave all marine life alone. Including turtles! Turtles are curious creatures, they will swim up to and around you. But be sure to leave some space.
Remember to watch out for corals as your kicking around. They can be very delicate, and kicking or standing on them can hurt them very much. Be aware of where your hands, fins, and go-pro wander off to.
